The report issued by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO to undertake urgent changes in food production methods to overcome the problem of high prices that threaten the impoverishment of millions of people.

The report recommended the adoption procedures to better protect natural resources and agricultural ways of using more harmonize with the environment, such as reliance on local production instead of importing crops from distant places.

It also recommended the use of agricultural natural ways that do not harm the environment.

It is noteworthy that the Haitian State, Egypt, the Philippines and parts of Africa had witnessed riots in recent times due to high prices of basic foodstuffs and Kalers corn and soybeans.

UNESCO said that increased demand for food in India and China and expansion in the production of biofuels used in lieu of oil and rising oil prices are some of the factors behind the rise in food prices.

Student leaders of Japan and the European Union the world to take urgent action to tackle the problem of high food prices, and warned that this increase might exacerbate the problem of poverty and undermines the global economy.

She said Japan, which imports more than half of their food, they intend to raise the subject of a sustained rise in food prices in the coming Summit of the Eight rich to be hosted in the month of July next July.

Over Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda Jasso and a number of European leaders including European Commission President José Manuel Barroso expressed their deep concern over rising food prices and oil and other commodities, in a joint statement issued after the summit gathered together in the Japanese capital Tokyo.

The statement said: "The high prices may slow down the growth of global economy and have negative effects on developing countries and developed alike."

The Europeans and Japanese leaders on the urgent need to confront this problem, and in particular to the sharp impact on the efforts of developing countries to overcome poverty.

The two sides also pledged to Japanese and European cooperation to promote stability in global currency markets.

It is noteworthy that food prices have increased considerably since the end of last year against the backdrop of increased consumption in the Chinese and Indian economies onwards, and the increase in the production of biofuels
